DDoS in corso? Abbiate pazienza o usate servizi sicuri!
Ultimamente sia Autistici/Inventati che altri server autogestiti come Riseup o Nodo50 hanno subito attacchi DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service).
Un DDoS consiste nel dirigere un enorme flusso di traffico fasullo contro l’obiettivo per saturare l’infrastruttura e quindi impedire il funzionamento dei servizi offerti. In questo modo il server non può più rispondere alle richieste di visualizzazione di pagine web, di scaricamento della posta, di collegamento a jabber e via dicendo. Di conseguenza, la fretta può spingere gli/le utenti a usare servizi commerciali, che sono più resistenti agli attacchi DDoS e quindi offrono servizi più stabili. Noi però vi sconsigliamo di prendere decisioni dettate dalla fretta. Per prevenire rischi per la vostra privacy, vi consigliamo di aprire una casella di posta di backup su un altro server amico e di usare jabber con un servizio alternativo (come quello associato a tutte le caselle di posta Riseup o quello di Systemli) invece di ricorrere a un servizio commerciale di messaggistica istantanea.
Is a DDoS attack going on? Be patient or use secure services!
In the last few weeks Autistici/Inventati as well as other autonomous servers such as Riseup or Nodo50 have been targeted by DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks.
A DDoS attack consists in a huge flow of bogus traffic all at once in an effort to overwhelm an infrastructure and to block the functioning of the services offered by the server. This way, the server cannot answer the requests to visualize web pages, to download mail, to connect to jabber and so on. As a consequence, if users are in a hurry, they can be pushed to use commercial services, that are more resistant to DDoS attacks and therefore offer more stable services. We strongly advise you against making decisions dictated by hurry. In order to prevent risks for your privacy, we recommend you to create a backup mailbox with another friendly server and to use an alternative jabber service (like the one Riseup offers with all its mailboxes or Systemli‘s jabber service) instead of turning to a commercial instant messaging platform.

Cosa intendete per “casella di posta di backup su un altro server”?
Esistono automatismi per inoltrare la posta ricevuta sui vostri server ad altri, sempre autogestiti?

I servizi commerciali si specializzano e offrono qualità sempre maggiore, ma in relazione alla produttività dell’essere umano. Ben venga una certa qualità dei servizi di autistici/inventati, ma che non sia una rincorsa della qualità dei server commerciali. Scegliere autistici significa anche il rifiuto di ogni concezione industriale e consumistica dello strumento mail, jabber, etc.
In parole povere: per me chi ha fretta non ha capito un c***o. :)

@N1k05: no, semplicemente si sta parlando di avere una seconda casella di posta pronta da usare nel caso la prima sia irrangiungibile!

I was really worried too.
If I can give a suggestion: you should host a technical notices support blog on a separate network so that is reachable even though your servers are down like in this case.
Knowing what is going on while it happens and the fact that people is working on it can calm down people a lot.
