Videoconferenze per autorganizzarsi in remoto / Video calls for remote self-management

Viste le circostanze abbiamo deciso di rendere disponibile, su base sperimentale e per un periodo limitato di tempo, un servizio di videoconferenza aperto a tutti, per supportare attività di gruppo a distanza.
Il servizio è disponibile su vc.autistici.org ed è stato implementato usando il software open source Jitsi.
Il servizio è fruibile liberamente da un computer con webcam o da uno smartphone (usando l’app di Jitsi), senza bisogno di effettuare alcuna registrazione o autenticazione (ovvero è possibile usarlo anche se non si è già utenti di autistici.org). La capacità è limitata, e nel caso dovesse terminare, le condizioni di accesso potrebbero cambiare oppure espanderemo la capacità, vedremo.
Ci interessa però parlarvi di alcune questioni tecniche che è importante sapere prima di usare questo strumento.
  • Autistici/Inventati non mantiene alcuna registrazione della chiamata e nessun identificativo personale dei partecipanti. Questo ovviamente non vale per le persone che partecipano alla chiamata con voi, perciò se non volete che sconosciuti partecipino alla vostra chiamata vi consigliamo di impostare una password per la stanza.
  • Il servizio è pensato per gruppi che condividono la nostra policy, in caso di abuso non ci faremo problemi ad intervenire
  • Pare ci siano incompatibilità con versioni di Firefox non sufficientemente recenti, quindi in caso riscontraste problemi vi consigliamo prima di provare con Chromium.
  • In alcuni casi Jitsi effettua connessioni peer-to-peer, che implica che il proprio indirizzo IP può essere rivelato agli altri partecipanti.
  • Ricordate che è impossibile impedire agli altri partecipanti di registrare le conversazioni, e che le videoconferenze sono suscettibili alle intercettazioni elettroniche ED ambientali contemporaneamente.
Detto questo, non ci resta che augurarvi buon uso del nostro nuovo servizio.

Given the current circumstances in Italy, which we don’t expect to keep limited to the Italian territory for long, we are launching, as an experimental service that will only be available for limited time, a public video-conference tool to support remote group activities.

This service is available at vc.autistici.org and is running on Jitsi, an open source tool.

You can use this tool freely through a computer with a webcam or a smartphone (by using the Jitsi app). To use it, you won’t need to register or authenticate (which means you can use it even if you are not an autistici.org user). The capacity of this service is limited, and if the server’s limits are reached, access conditions may change, or we may decide to expand the capacity, depending on what happens.

Before you start using it, we would like to mention some technical details you should be aware of:

– Autistici/Inventati does not log any calls or personal identifying data of the participants. Of course, we can’t say the same about other people joining your call. So if you don’t want strangers to join your call, we recommend you set a password for accessing your chat room.

– This service is available for groups who agree with our policy – if our policy is violated, we won’t hesitate to take steps.

– There seem to be some issues with versions of Firefox that are not the latest – if you have problems with Firefox, you can try using Chromium.

– In some cases Jitsi establishes peer-to-peer connections, so your IP address might be revealed to other participants.

– Please remember that it’s impossible to stop other participants from recording conversations, and video-conferences can be eavesdropped both by physical devices and by digital tools.

Keeping all this in mind, you can now enjoy video calls on Autistici/Inventati.
